Between The Sun And The Ocean

A short drive separates you from a great diversity of beaches: from the wellknown beaches of Malhão, or those in the Milfontes area, to the small ocean beaches which remain practically deserted, even in summer. You will surely find a beach that you like and, if you’re lucky, you’ll have it all to yourself!

Vila Nova de Milfontes
Milfontes-rio (river), Milfontes-farol (lighthouse), and Milfontes-furna (cave); (5km away). Large areas of sand facing a smooth flowing river. Ideal for swimming, canoeing, and windsurfing.

Malhão, Aivados
12km to the north. Endless areas of golden sand and a sea that is usually rough, making this beach very popular with surfers.

Pessegueiro Island
20km to the north. Beach opposite the island on which the ruins of a fortress are preserved. By the beach there is an identical Filipino fortress in a better state of preservation.

São Torpes
25km to the north. Beach battered by the waves. Ideal for surfing. There are many good restaurants nearby where you can taste traditional fish dishes.

15km to the south. Beach at the end of a cliff, next to a small traditional village. Some of the rocks are perfect places for children to look for crabs and other animals at low tide.

Zambujeira do Mar
30km to the south. Beach at the end of a cliff surrounded by the village of Zambujeira do Mar and its exciting nightlife during the summer. A little further south, you can find the famous beach of Brejão where the fado singer Amália Rodrigues once had a holiday home and actually lived for certain periods of her life.

Praias Desertas
In this coastal area there are small inlets, some of with are difficult to access by car. Even in the summer these are true hiding places where you will probably find yourself alone.
